Is a home water filtration system really necessary? Isn't the system used by my local water filtration facility effective? The simple answers are yes to the first, and no to the second.
In fact, one thing that we want to get out of our tap water is chlorine, which is added at the water treatment facility to "disinfect" the water. Even though there are water borne parasites that are resistant to chlorine.

MTBE is a gasoline additive that has entered the ground water due to station spillage and seepage from the underground storage tanks. You can usually tell if it's in your water, because it smells bad. It has been determined that ingesting MTBE may cause cancer.
