How to Fit a Wall Extractor Fan DIY

Fitting a wall extractor fan can be difference between a bathroom or dry kitchen or one that is prone to moisture and suffers from mold. Actually it is a simple process and the following easy guide will help you through the steps you need to concern.

1) Mark the position you want to fit the extractor fan

The first step is to make a decision where you want to place the extractor fan. Make sure that the outside position has plenty of ventilation and is not too close to the neighbors as you do not want to transfer fumes into their house, also make sure that the outside area is free from obstructions such as rain pipes or soil. Then make sure there are no buried pipes or cables using a cable finder. If you do find any you will need to shift your position slightly so as not to obstruct with them.

2) Drilling the hole

Carefully mark the position on the wall where the extractor fan will be placed ensuring you mark the outside edges or diameter. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure you fulfill with their necessities. Once you have marked, use an electric drill to drill a hole all the way through the centre of the location angling your drill slightly downwards. Then mark the outside position of the extractor fan on the wall with the hole as a guide again using the electric drill to do so. Use a big chisel to remove the waste and a smaller chisel to smooth the hole.

3) Fitting the extractor fan

If you want to hide the cables and conduit, use a small hammer and chisel to cut grooves in the plaster work so they can be buried. On the other hand, you may cover them with plastic conduit which avoids having to re-plaster and decorate. Fit the fan onto the wall as well as the outside grille cover.

4) Connecting the fan

You will require connecting the fan to the electricity supply with some basic wiring so if you are not sure doing this you may need to get an experienced electrician for this part of the work. Once finished you are all done.

How to remove odors from a dishwasher?

Washing your dishwasher? Doesn't that sound kind of like overkill? After all, doesn't the dishwasher wash itself every time you run a load of dirty dishes?

As the old song says, "It ain't necessarily so!" Dishwashers need regular routine cleaning just like every large, frequently used appliance in your home.

We don't always take the time to scrape and rinse food from plates and bowls before putting them into the dishwasher. Tiny bits of food, grease and soap scum cling together and are deposited in corners of the dishwasher and in crevices around the door... read more..

Metal Railings Make the Perfect Handrails

The Importance of Handrails

Almost every home has stairs of some kind. They may be stairs that lead to your front door, stairs that lead to your second story or stairs that lead to your downstairs. The type of handrails you choose can accentuate whatever type of stairs you have in your home.

Handrails

Handrails are a way to add elegance and creativity to your home if you use the right kind of handrails. Metal railings are a popular style of handrail as well as wrought iron and wood. Although the main reason and purpose for handrails is safety, this does not mean that they can't be attractive and aesthetically appealing to you and your guests. Handrails are much more attractive and versatile then what was offered years ago. Today we have choices of wood, iron, aluminum and steel. You'll have so many choices that you won't know which one to get for your stairs.

When handrails were first used years ago, the most common type was pieces of pipes that were mounted to the stairs, walls or ramps. While they served their purpose for safety, they weren't very attractive. Today we can have the combination of safety and beauty. Whether you're choosing handrails for your home or business, you have a large selection to choose from including metal railings, exquisitely designed wooden railings or wrought iron railings to name just a few of the most popular. Contractors and architects have knowledge, tools and the sense of creativity to design some of the most beautiful handrails to complement their stairs and entire home.

Considerations When Choosing Handrails

When you choose handrails for your home or business, appearance will probably be your first consideration followed by safety or vice versa. However, other things need to be considered such as design, cost, maintenance and local regulations. There are established codes that need to be considered regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act for stairs and ramps, particularly if you are in business. There are specific dimensions and heights, which are recommended.

Unlike days of the past when handrails were simple and plain, today you have the opportunity to choose from brass handrails, steel handrails, wood handrails or glass handrails and balustrades. The type of handrails you choose is a matter of personal preference as well as your choice of balustrades, which are not available in lightweight materials as opposed to the concrete and stone ones of the past.

Recommendations for Handrails

Although we have our choices of handrails, with many now available, there are certain types that are better than others are. Stainless steel handrails are best for outdoor use as they are corrosion resistant. For a custom and elegant look, choose wrought iron or custom-made glass handrails. Metal or aluminum handrails are best for the places where you want lightweight yet durable.

The Best Ways to Learn How to Install Drywall

Many couples that are building their home or remodeling try to do as much of it as they can themselves as a way to save money on labor. Many of these projects can be done with just a quick course or tutorial on doing the projects. Learning how to install drywall is definitely one project you need to learn before you tackle it. There are many "how to drywall" courses or websites online as well. However, it can be done.

The first thing you need to know is what tools you'll need before you begin. You don't want to be in the middle of finishing drywall to find out you don't have the tools you need. Some of the things you'll need are tray, joint putty, hammer, paint, scraper, plaster, patches, sandpaper and dry cloth. When you begin to plaster the walls, you'll use a scraper to make sure it's smooth. Once it's dry, sand it with the sandpaper until it's smooth. When you put your nails in the drywall, make sure you indent them so you can fill the hole with plaster and make it smooth.

Before you begin hanging the drywall, sand the old wall so it is smooth and free of any lumps, bumps or scrapes. If there are holes in the wall, you'll need to apply some putty and scrape them smooth, followed by sanding. If there is a large hole or scratch, it may need two coats of plaster. Make sure you let the plaster dry thoroughly before you sand as well as between each coat. When you're all done sanding, wipe any excess dust off the walls and make sure they are clean and grease free.

The next step, after putting away your dry wall tools, is to paint your walls the color of your choice. To make your painting easier always do the baseboards and around windows and doors first. The base line area should be painted before you bring any furniture back into the room. If you don't remove your furniture before painting, make sure it is properly covered with plastic.

Once you're all finished and look at your walls, you'll be glad you chose to do this job yourself. If you find that your walls don't have to be totally replaced, you can fix them by patching them with plaster and sanding until smooth. However, if the walls are rotten or in bad condition, it may be to your advantage to have them replaced or hire a professional to do the job for you. The important thing to remember with your walls is to maintain them through the years. Repair problems when you first notice them and you'll find they're easier to repair. Although, finishing drywall is something you can do as a DIY project, it is time consuming and messy. Be sure to wear a mask while sanding the drywall to avoid breathing difficulties.

Greg Hansward's publications can be found on lots of online sites tied to information on dry wall hand tool. Sharing his passion in detailed writings, he expressed his depth of understanding on things associated to dry wall tools and dry wall hand tool.

DIY Air Conditioner

After quite a bit of experimentation I came up with an efficient design for the DIY cooling system. The design involves a U-shaped heat exchanger, through which a fan pushes air. The heat exchanger is immersed in an ice-water mixture which allows heat exchange to take place. As a result the air exits the heat exchanger significantly cooler than its temperature going in.

For pictures and explanation of this design have a look at the link below.

The key to this design is maintaining a balance between the size of "gap" and flow length of the heat exchanger. The gap controls the rate of heat transfer. The narrower the gap the greater the rate of heat transfer. And the longer the flow length the greater the total heat transfer that takes place. The factor which must be accounted for is the resistance to air flow which increases when the gap decreases, and increases when the flow length increases.

Fortunately, I am able to get as much as a 10 degree Celsius temperature drop with my choice of dimensions, while still maintaining an acceptable level of air speed through the heat exchanger. The fan I used is a store-bought fan.

Ice is the most effective means to create the cooling medium. But you can also use tap water, if it's cold enough, say 10-15 degrees Celsius.

However, you can also make ice in your freezer provided it is an efficient model. As it turns out, it would still cost quite a bit less to operate the homemade a/c (plus make ice) than to operate a store-bought a/c. The difference, of course, is that the homemade a/c is best suited for local cooling only, i.e. you just want to keep yourself cool, such as at night when you're sleeping, which is likely all you really care about. Just place it beside you and you're taken care of for a few hours. And it's better than having a stand-alone fan running.

How to Build Solar Panels

Building solar panels is a relatively simple matter because solar cells are modular. They are also quite small. Solar cells that are used in residential solar panels is about twice the size of a bar coaster or about four times the size of a playing card. You can fit your hands around one quite easily.

You begin building solar panels by connecting these cells in series and then connecting panels to one another. Then all that is left is to connect the solar panel array to batteries and an inverter to power your house.

Solar cells or photovoltaic cells, as we'll call them here, convert solar energy into electric energy. Now, you knew that but in order to understand the way building solar panels works, you need to know how the electricity is made.

Photons of light strike the semiconductor material on the cell's surface, usually silicon, and in so doing knock an electron loose. There are two types of silicon used to make a cell. They are both mixed with other elements which change their polarity. One type is negatively charged because it is mixed with phosphorous and the other is positively charged because it is mixed with boron. By putting together layers of silicon with different electrical charges, the incoming photons have an easier time of loosening up an electron and sending it looking for place to go.

The cells are engineered so that the electrons can only go in one direction and that direction is 'out.' So, each cell is designed to add their exiting electrons to the flow of electrons and with enough cells and enough solar energy, you have an electrical current you can work with.

See, building solar panels is not difficult but it is precise. The channels that absorb the electrons in each cell are lined up with every other channel in their particular group by means of a connecting tab, solder and flux. Once the cells are connected, a surface layer of glass, plastic or laminate (or a some combination) is layed over the top to protect them, all the moisture is removed (to avoid condensation which would interfere with the panel's efficiency) and the panels are placed into position and connected.

From there, it is a simple matter of hooking up the solar array to your house's electrical condition. In my mind, it goes without saying that you should hire a professional to do this. If you insist on doing it yourself, I believe you still need a certified electrician to examine it to insure your work is up to code. In the event of an adverse electrical event (fire), you would want your house to be up to code and in keeping with the provisions of your home owner's insurance policy. will answer an questions you might have on how to put together your own solar panels for home use.

Answering Your Air Conditioner Questions

When the summer heat hits there is nothing better than stepping into an air conditioned room. The cool air whisks away the heat of the sun and just makes you feel better. Some people want just a cool breeze while others want the temperatures of winter in their home when the heat is beating everyone down.

Not everyone can live in a temperate climate where the temperature stays constant year round. Some live in areas where the temperature can climb well over a hundred degrees mid-day.

That is just too hot! Have you given your air conditioner much thought? What would it be like to be without an air conditioner and suffering in the summer heat and humidity?

Those little wonders can save frazzled nerves and make you feel refreshed again. This article will cover the basics of air conditioners and hopefully have you feeling cool again in no time.

What is better: a window unit or central air?

That is a difficult question and largely depends on how big of an area you will be cooling down. If you live in a loft or a one bedroom home or office you may be better serviced by a window unit. Large spaces are inefficiently cooled by window units.

It would take several to cool down each of the rooms in the home. Central air, on the other hand, can be pumped in from a unit located outside or inside and used to cool the entire house at once. It may be more cost efficient to use a central air unit to cool down a home or large office.

What is a 'Persian Cooler?'

The Persian Cooler is actually called an evaporative cooler. It is used heavily in hotter climates such as in Iran where the largest concentration of these units are made and used. The Persian Cooler works by drawing in the hot air from the outside and running it through water soaked pad.

The actual temperature of the air is not changed but the quality and humidity of the air is changed to more of a "dry" heat. This type of cooler gave Dr. John Gorrie the inspiration of using ice instead of the wet pad for his Apalachicola patients in 1842.

Who do I call when something goes wrong with my air conditioner?

The best advice is to call a heating and cooling technician that is familiar with your type of unit. If you have a Ruud then you will want to call someone who is familiar with that brand of air conditioning unit.

Some people will want to try to fix the problem themselves and there is nothing wrong with that if that person is knowledgeable about basic air conditioning systems. There are plenty of do it yourself websites that can help you fix your air conditioner yourself. It is always advisable to seek out knowledgeable help before you begin though just in case you run into a problem that is out of your realm of knowledge.

How are air conditioners controlled?

Air conditioners are controlled by thermostats. You set the thermostat at the desired level of coolness and it sends an electrical signal to the unit. This signal tells the unit how long to run and pump cool air into the home or office.

It will also let the unit know when to stop pumping air. It is important for a thermostat to be running correctly. If something is wrong with the thermostat the unit may not work properly.

Home Alarm Systems - Reasons Why You Should Have Alarm Systems Installed in Your House

This constantly moving and unpredictable world has prompted alarm systems to become more and more common. In relation, many areas have found that security systems are necessary. Home alarms had never crossed my mind, because I grew up in a period where it was safe to leave our doors unlocked, because we trusted others. The society of that decade is completely opposite from today's. I have recently been taking a look into the costs of having a home alarm installed, primarily because I now have parental responsibilities.

I only realized some time ago that most new cars come equipped with alarms. The RV I bought cam equipped with a sophisticated alarm system, but I don't know if it ever deterred anyone from breaking in, because I have never known of anyone who had tried. Maybe it does give me some comfort, but in any case, I did receive a discount on my auto insurance because I have one installed.

An alarm system is needed by every business, no matter the size; insurance companies almost demand it. Like more and more people are doing these days, I am going to have an alarm system installed at home. I put a lot of thought into it before finally deciding to look into obtaining more information on home security. I never had a clue that they not only prevent home invasions, but other threats as well. There are a number of convincing arguments as to why you should have one installed in your house.

Knowing that these types of alarms can warn the household occupants of not only fire and the gas carbon monoxide (which cannot be detected by smell), I feel much better. Their job doesn't end there: they can also be of help if there is a problem where medical assistance is required urgently. Whether I'd look into home security or not suddenly changed from a choice to a necessity as I have a young child and because recently the crime rate has started to increase in the neighborhoods close to me. Disappearances of children from their own homes made me more concerned after they made national TV, radio and press.

Unfortunately my little girl's bedroom is only one floor from the ground and it would be a bit too easy if someone wanted to break into her windows. That served as my main cause to begin comparing the benefits of home security systems. I had the overwhelming conviction that I was keeping her safer by proceeding this way. An added bonus is my home owner's insurance company also provides me with a generous discount on my premium. Certainly, home security might be an ongoing cost, but its ongoing protection value makes it more than worthwhile. In terms of wealth, feeling safe when you are in your home is worth a fortune.

Neff Washing Machine - What to Consider When Buying a New Model

Firstly, you need to figure out what kind of washing machine you are looking for. Do you want a standalone washing machine or a combined washer dryer? The answer to that usually lies in how much space you have available to allocate as your laundry area. The Neff washing machine is available as a dedicated washer and is energy efficient and performs well. But it is also available as a washer dryer and saves you space, but means that if you are drying, you can not be washing and vice versa. So if you have a large family with lots of laundry, a standalone washing machine may be the best option for you.

Next, you will need to look at how varied your laundry is. For example, do you own a lot of silk that you do not want to get ruined in the wash? Do you have a lot of mixed fabrics, wools, cottons and bright colors? If this is the case then you need to choose your new washing machine very carefully. All Neff washing machines have a wide selection of programs so that you can ensure that your clothes stay looking as new as possible.

For washing, Neff provide you with a multi fabric and multi color wash, rinse and spin only, spin only, hand wash, wool and delicates, pre wash multi program, variable spin speeds, reduced time option and intensive wash. And for drying, Neff gives you the option of sensor drying for cottons and easy care, low heat drying, smoothing to remove all those creases and save you a job and fluffing for your jumpers and knitwear as well as a reverse tumble action. So you can choose the option that you need and your clothes will not get ruined.

Now that you have decided whether you want a standalone washer or a combined washer dryer, and you have decided what programs you will need depending on how varied your laundry is, you now need to think about whether you want any extra functions on your new washing machine to make your life a little bit easier. Neff washing machines offer several innovative, time saving and often disaster averting features.

The Neff washing machines that feature the Out of Balance system will automatically try to rebalance an unbalanced load. If it cannot balance the load, it will either reduce the spin or cut the spin out altogether to stop your clothes from getting damaged. You can also program your Neff washing machine up to 24 hours in advance so you can set it to come on overnight if you are on a two tier electricity scheme and take advantage of the off peak rates. Some, but not all, of the Neff washing machines come with a symbol that lets you know when you are using too much washing powder so that you can make your laundry more eco friendly.

The most important thing to consider when choosing your new laundry appliance is to feel confident that you know your options and that the washing machine you go for has everything that you need to feel comfortable with your choice. You need to feel that you can leave it to get on with its job of washing your clothes, leaving you free from worry and with time to get on with other things.

Ceiling Fans - How to Choose and Install

Ceiling fans are aesthetically pleasing, useful and energy efficient. While most people know that fans can provide a cool breeze in the summer, many don't realize that a fan can also be used to force warm air down from the ceiling in the winter. Light kits can even be added to increase the usefulness of many ceiling fans.

This how-to includes basic instructions for installing a ceiling fan. Remember, however, to always consult the manufacturer's instructions during actual installation. Since ceiling fans are most often used to replace existing light fixtures, the wiring to the fan should already be complete. Installation is not difficult, and only requires that you pay attention to the instructions included with the fan. If additional wiring must be done to install your fan and you are not familiar with wiring, consult a professional electrician. All wiring must conform to local and national codes.

Things to Consider

Ceiling fans are inexpensive to purchase and operate and can make a huge difference in your home's climate during both summer and winter months.
Replacing a central light fixture in almost any room with a ceiling fan + light kit can add beauty while increasing air flow.
Because a fan uses almost the same amount of power as a ceiling fixture, the electrical circuit won't be overloaded. If your fan includes lights, be sure the circuit it's on has enough capacity to handle the additional load. If not, you must run a new circuit with a new circuit breaker from the house's main service panel or sub-panel to the fan.
If there is no central light fixture, you'll have to create a place to hang the ceiling fan. Then, you'll need to bring electrical power to it. You can tap into an existing circuit to do this.

Before Installation

Determine what size fan you need. If the dimensions of the room that you will be installing the fan in are no bigger than 12' in any direction (length or width), then you should use a 36" fan. If the largest dimension of the room is between 12' and 15', then you should use a 42" fan. If the largest dimension of the room is greater than 15', then you should use at least a 52" fan.
Before you begin installing your ceiling fan, make sure the power to the fixture is off. Double check this with a high-voltage neon tester if possible. Lock the breaker box to make sure no one accidentally turns the power back on while you are installing the fan. Make sure you have any necessary permits, if applicable. Make sure that you have enough room for a fan.
Fans should be mounted no less than 7' from the floor and 12" from the ceiling. 18" from the ceiling is preferable for more air flow. Fans must be mounted at least 24" from any obstructions. An appropriate junction or outlet box securely attached to the building structure is required. Replace the old box with one labeled as approved for ceiling fans or ceiling suspended "paddle" fan installation. The box and its support must be able to support the moving weight of the fan. Use the installation hardware recommended by the junction box manufacturer. Fans of over 35 pounds, with or without accessories, require additional support independent of the outlet box. Check with a professional about your local building codes.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Install the hanger pipe - Place the hanger pipe in the hole on the top of the fan motor. Slowly draw out the wires from the center. Tighten the set-screws provided with the fan.

Step 2: Attach the blades - Attach the fan blades to the main body. Standard fan blades come with a two-pronged attachment. Connect the screws through the holes present on the blades to the flanges. Tighten them using a screwdriver.

Step 3: Install the hanger bracket - Install the hanger bracket using lock washers and screws. Lock washers should be provided with the fan but if they are not a part of the installation kit then purchase them from a hardware store. Lock washers will prevent the screws from loosening when the fan vibrates.

Step 4: Wire the fan - Determine the hot and common wires by color: black is hot for the fan, blue is hot for the light kit, white is common for the fan and light kit, and green is ground. In all cases, make sure that all exposed wiring is secured inside wire nuts. Wires need to be connected in such a way that the black house wires are connected to the black ceiling fan wires while the white house wires are connected to the white fan wires. The standard colors for grounding wires are either bare copper or green. You should wire-nut the ground wires from the box to those from the power supply and the fan. Once wiring is complete, gently push wires into the electrical box.

Step 5: Turn on your new fan and check for proper operation.

You Should Be Using a Drinking Water Filter System - And Here's Why

A drinking water filter system is a unique thing in our lives. Small things can sometimes do the biggest of jobs, and that is certainly true for this. A little filter helps us to remove all the contaminants in our water and helps keep us safe.

We depend on our public water treatment facilities and they do a good job supplying us with water, but they can't remove all the impurities naturally contained in it. Plus they add something that needs to be taken out.

It is chlorine, and it is necessary for them to keep it in, but it is not necessary for us to drink it. A drinking water filter system can help us to remove everything that is not needed.

An early application of chlorine was chemical warfare in World War I. Deployed as a gas, it combines with fluids in the lungs forming hydrochloric acid. With enough exposure, lungs simply dissolve. While quite frightening it was easily countered by the same type of filter as you'll find in the best drinking water filter system.

The effects of ingesting chlorine aren't as severe. Some get headaches and respiratory diseases, but it can also kill helpful digestive bacteria, causing any number of digestive problems.

A study was conducted by the research staff at the University of Wisconsin which stated that the chlorine in our water can cause cancer in some humans. Are you willing to be among the few? A drinking water filter system can help ensure that you do not have to go through the agony of insecurity.

Recently a chlorine immune strain of bacteria was discovered. We cannot let that bacteria just thumb its nose at us. We have to get rid of it from our drinking water by using our drinking water filter system. Then we don't need to worry about it anymore.

Herbicides and pesticides were created to kill weeds and bugs, so how can we be sure they will not harm us? They seep into our pipes though the ground and stay there until we remove them with our drinking water filter system. They are like pests themselves when they are in our water.

But for all the things a drinking water filter system needs to remove, there are things that need to remain. A few designs will remove healthy minerals and nutrients from the water they filter. Distillation is an older culprit, but the technique is mostly obsolete. A newer design which suffers from the same weakness is known as reverse osmosis, but the units are so expensive you'll never accidentally buy a real one.

It is an ancient world we live in, and there have been many attempts to make the perfect drinking water filter system. But the one we have now is perfection itself. We can get what we want from it. Maybe later it will be obsolete as new strains of viruses might develop. Till then our drinking water filter system is perfect. Now if only everyone would get one, it would make it a perfect world to live in.

Woodworking Hand Tools - Don't Buy Them Without Free Independent Informed Advice

This page is to help you to avoid wasting money on tools you don't need and spending what you have to spend on tools that are going to do a good job for you. Hopefully you are only going to buy something once. You may as well try and buy the best one you can. Our advice is impartial, we are not linked with any tool manufacturing organisation and we receive no free samples that may blur our judgment or colour our opinion.

Our knowledge is expert, gained over decades of experience of handling these tools and working them ourselves and making our living with them. Our objective is to get the best tools in your hands and show you how to use them properly.

Forged High Carbon Steel

Lets start with the most important part the cutting edge. All your work your effort is through this point. This sharpened steel wedge. You need to have the best steel to save yourself effort and gain more control. Do not worry about manufacturers that claim their steel that holds its edge for soooo.... long. What you really want is SHARP. My experience tells me that "high carbon steel" takes a sharper edge than the A2 kind of steel offered by most modern toolmakers. High carbon steel was at best forged, hammered in a hot state. However modern steels even modern high carbon steels are cold rolled. This gives a"tougher" edge that is lacking a bit of the hardness of genuine forged high carbon steel. Yet it is good steel common in many brands of western chisels as a steel it is acceptable (just). But that edge is just a bit too dull for me. The best forged high carbon steel now seems to come from Britain France and China.

If you can find genuine forged high carbon steel try it. Clifton make a really good genuine forged steel blade "The Victor" plane blade is forged in Sheffield I have these in my planes and replaced an A2 blade from Lie Nielsen to great effect. If you know how to sharpen properly without a silly set of training wheels then it should give you the very best edge most easily. Other sources are blades from Ron Hock he worked with Jim Krenov to develop blades for his students and I believe imports steel from France. www.hocktools.com I have also bought small spoke shaves from Lee Valley that were made in China to a very high standard of steel
Old forged steel blades

Beware of "old steel" this is wonderful stuff hard as good tool steel as it can be, and romantic, however it can be so damned hard it cannot be flattened easily enough to make good contact on a sharpening stone. Those old guys did not have the quality control to be sure that every blade was flat so many are not. Getting an old blade flat is a tough job, once you get it flat then you got a real tool for life but boy that is an effort. [I will talk about flatness later its very important.]

A2 Steel

A2 steel is popular with many modern toolmakers "A-2 steel hardened to Rockwell 60-62 cryogenically treated and double tempered" is the info on L -Ni chisels. They are without doubt made with a tough steel, the toughness enables them to hold an edge for AAAAAAges. But that edge is just a bit too dull for me. Many of my students buy these chisels and I don't discourage them. They are a teeny bit tricky to learn to put an edge on but thats not a problem. I prefer teaching people new to this with a high carbon blade as the burr comes away really sweetly. Once you get the idea its no problem to sharpen these A2 blades.

Woodworking Tools Badly Made

Woodworking tool manufacturers need to be aware that they cannot continue to make more inferior products than their forefathers. Or they cannot do this and maintain a market share. Woodworking Tools should work straight out of the box, its not your fault if that tool don't cut, its theirs and they should be made to do better, all of them.

When we see in our own workshop tools that arrive bent we will tell you. We will put it up on this page. We will shame the makers of these tools until they stop making tools that are impossible to put into use without a week course in tool fettling, a $1000 granite slab and a load of wasted time.

Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaners

Anyone who owns their own pool knows that they probably didn't know what they were getting into when they bought it or had it installed. The maintenance of a backyard pool is a never-ending chore during the warmer months when it is in use, and if you live in a place like Florida or southern California that means all year long.

Especially if you live in a rustic setting, leaves and grass are a constant threat to the cleanliness of your pool. Besides blowing into the water from all over the place, they clog up filters and when they get heavy enough with volume and wetness sink to the bottom of the pool from where they are a intense source of irritation. People who use the standard manual hand-held pool cleaning nets and mesh baskets understand this all too well.

Yet other devices besides the above mentioned ones, designed to make cleaning the pool easier, don't do so well either. Hand-held vacuums are a great deal of bent-back work and don't really do much to remove dirt and silt--they just tend to stir it all around more.

Suction cleaners require less physical labor but they are fraught with problems, particularly that they don't scrub so that the pool really doesn't get clean and they are random with their scanners so that they miss too many areas too often, among others negatives.

Pressure cleaners are only marginally better and they require a special pump be installed. And the expensive in-floor cleaning systems take a great deal of work to be installed in the first place (and are meant to be installed with the pool's construction) and they still don't scrub your pool for all that.

But there has come along a pool owner's dream solution: robotic pool cleaners. Until recent times, the benefits of robotic pool cleaners could only be had by CEOs, career politicians, and celebrities. But as happens with technology, the price of robotic pool cleaners has come down to where their benefits can be enjoyed by many pool owners.

Unlike the random gyroscopic scanning for particles and leaves that come with the suction and pressure cleaners, robotic pool cleaners use the technology of "fuzzy logic" that began being developed with seriousness in the 1980s to "think" more like a human being would about pool cleaning. The fuzzy logic processing allows the robots to give full coverage to your pool regardless of its shape, and they are driven by microchip technology that gives them their type of artificial intelligence that can allow them to go around obstacles and even climb walls as needed. Different models of robots are recommended for various sized pools.

The benefits of using robotic pool cleaners include: ease of installation (for those that need to be installed); a full, complete pool cleaning including scrubbing and the application of cleaning chemicals; independence from your pool's main filter; and low maintenance.

These days, the initial cash outlay for a robotic pool cleaner is typically less than the in-floor cleaners, and the work that never gets done on your pool now gets done--while you enjoy swimming in, instead of working in, your pool.

DIY: Want To Know How To Get Free Cable TV?

We've evolved from the invention of the light bulb to now, how to get free cable TV on a computer. I m just waiting for the fuel evolution, as we all know is today's big issue. Have you noticed how some of the big companies feel they have a corner on the market until they feel some competition? Slowly with our ability to evolve and our great system of competition the scale balances out. They say TV is not a necessity but for those of us brought up in this era may say different. Right or wrong it takes you away from the day's issues and when the writers aren't on strike good entertainment. If you noticed I didn't say cheap entertainment. It seemed like only a few years ago that I thought $14.00 a month was high (OK maybe 20 year ago). Now my bill with the high speed Internet the Internet phone and digital cable is around $180.00 a month. I know I'm not in this boat alone and everyone has this type of bill, maybe not quiet as high but close. It does make you wonder how to get free cable TV.

Now they are planning to convert everything to digital and getting rid of the free ban or antenna. I believe after this year even our older TV sets that are not digital ready will be outdated.
