There isn't a day that goes by that we don't spend a little time in the laundry room, so why not make it as inviting as the other rooms in your house. In fact, if the laundry room was more welcoming and organized, it would be a lot easier to turn a "must do" chore into a little time alone to enjoy. Laundry rooms are usually quite small but can be arranged to provide easy access to the washer, dryer, folding table and storage closet, no matter what size of the area. Put whites in one laundry bag, colors in another, etc. You can easily teach other family members to sort as they put their laundry in the laundry room. A comfortable mat or area rug to stand on will prevent tiring as you do your laundry. Less fatigue means getting the work done faster and more efficient. Curtains that match the color scheme of your laundry room make the room more enjoyable to work in and by adding a couple of plants to the window sill will be a delightful added touch.
A bulletin board with photos of those little smiling faces who creates those mounds of laundry, makes life more enjoyable by putting you in a happier mood. A lot of time is spent in the laundry room so try making it a happy little haven to get away for just a few minutes while doing what mom's do best, keep the family happy and clean. A radio playing a joyful tune sure makes the time go faster and don't forget to add a reward jar where all the change found in pockets will soon add up to "pizza night" where everyone contributed and didn't even know it.
When socks and other clothing become tattered you may want to get creative. Use the unmatched socks to hang on the wall with a tack. Put one sock up for each person in the home. When you wash clothes for that person you can put the things you find in their pockets into the sock. When they realize that such things are lost they can check the sock in the laundry room before they start calling out your name to find it for them.
